What Did You Talk to God about Today?

Practical Ways to Identify & Use Your Gifts

God makes each of us unique! He places special characteristics and abilities in EACH of us. There is literally NO ONE else like YOU in the entire world. God is THAT creative!

God didn’t give us talents and giftings for us to hide them, or to use them only for ourselves, but rather to SHINE and DISPLAY them on the WORLD STAGE!

I am on this earth to help others with MY gifts, and YOU are here to help others with YOUR gifts!

When you use your talents to help others, it’s an act of worship. It will feed your soul, fill you with joy, and give you a sense of calling!

HERE’S A THREE-STEP PLAN FOR HOW TO UTILIZE YOUR GOD-GIVEN TALENTS:

Step 1: Determine WHAT talents you should use!

You may be thinking right now, “I don’t have any talents!” My friend, you most certainly do! You may just need a little help uncovering them! So let’s get to it!

HOW TO CHOOSE WHICH TALENTS TO USE

Ask friends and family what they view as your strengths.

Often, others see your strengths better than you do! Ask them what they would ask you for help or advice for. Have them identify what they see that makes you unique!

If one or two things keep being repeated by others, consider focusing on THAT talent!

Make your own list of things you LIKE to do, even if you’re not CURRENTLY good at it.

Photography, party planning, shopping, organizing, singing, talking, writing, design, cooking, sports… Nothing is too insignificant of a “joy” or “interest.”

Sometimes our talents lay dormant, and they need a little gardening to make them grow! Try something on for size and see how it fits! You may awaken a talent you never knew lived inside of you! Sometimes our hearts have a way of knowing us better than our hands! When the heart and hands start working in unison, they have a power that can’t be stopped!

Pray about it.

I am not going ANYWHERE God isn’t leading me! Been there, done that—and spoiler alert—it doesn’t end well!

Hang a list of your talents and strengths somewhere you will see daily and often! I get in the fridge A LOT, so that’s my go-to spot. Other ideas include bathroom mirrors, car dashboards, or desks at work! Every time you see the list, say a prayer asking God to help you narrow down which talent to focus on. Then cultivate it!

STEP 2: START USING THE TALENT!

Now that you have decided on a talent, it’s time to put your feet in the water! The Israelites had to take the first step across the Jordan River to get to the Promised Land, and you need to get your feet wet too!

Ask God to allow you to use your talents for His purposes! You can count on God to answer that request! He isn’t going to let a willing heart and a talent go to waste! He will put person after person in your path who you can impact with your giftings!

I think we have a tendency to overcomplicate our next steps. We think it needs to be big and showy to make an impact, but small starts count! Small starts allow you to learn the ropes and build a solid platform that can support your giftings and equip you to reach more and more people!

Begin by using your talents by volunteering your talents to an organization, or use your giftings to help a neighbor or friend!

STEP 3: EXPAND

Spread your wings and fly! As you grow more confident and knowledgeable in your giftings, go bigger! If a big door opens, walk through it, BOLDLY!

EACH of us has a specific role God has destined for us from the very moments we were knit together in our mother’s womb!

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU are the one God is using!
